I absolutely adore these tree relief prints by Brian Nash Gill . He rolls the ink right on the trunk, overlays this with paper and then rubs to create the print with his own hands. The print below is hemlock.

life envy

Oh my, where to begin, this is so much more than a girl crush. Artist Bobbie Burgers has what I concede to be the perfect life. I saw her featured in Canadian House and Home a couple of years back and have carried those torn-out pages with me. Here is this young, beautiful artist living in a colorful modern house in Vancouver with gorgeous blond children and a furniture designer husband. I've often thought of her as a role model for where I'd like to be. Painting at home, hanging out with the kids in the garden. Maybe her idealic family even won me over to the idea of children...

Just this week I stumble upon an article about her Okanagon summer home and new love of farming on the properties orchards, gardens and vineyard. Her perfect existence just became more perfect. *sigh*

'Halifax Art Week'

I had a tour of the Sobey Art Award short list nominees last week and one of the speakers deemed this week 'Halifax Art Week'. The Sobey award will be presented tonight at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia followed by ArtRising , a late night secret-venue fundraiser for AGNS coordinated by local painter Mitchell Wiebe . I'm super excited for Nocturne , Halifax's art at night event, which takes place on Saturday night. Below are some pics of the Sobey award nominees, a great little exhibit of contemporary art that we don't see very often in this city. Be sure to check it out, it's on exhibit until Nov. 5th. Bike art

Okay so it's not exactly art, but architect/bike activist David Baker 's ceiling mounted bike storage is totally sculptural. I have ceilings similar to this in my place, and have been awkwardly parking my bike in my entryway since I had the air let out of my tires in the parking garage. This hook and pulley system might be a playful a practical answer to my parking dilemma.

Studio dreamin'

I just saw this painting by Lotte Geeven and am in awe of this spacious studio space. I would lock myself in and not come out for days and days... {via Grijs} 

I missed PARK(ing) Day!

 Pioneered in 2005 by Rebar in 2005, PARK(ing) Day is a one day (Sept. 18) event where people take over metered parking spaces and create temporary parkettes or other public spaces. Last year over 500 installations where created worldwide. The essence of the event is to question car-oriented infrastructure. {via Polis}

Speaking of questioning car-oriented infrastructure, Nocturne, Halifax's equivalent to Nuit Blanche, is featuring an installation entitled The Parkades Project. "Exploring the spaces of car-parks this project is inspired by the movement of people, inherent architectural acoustics and environmental considerations. Through rhythm, scent, light and sound this piece creates an aesthetic experience for pedestrians in a building for cars..." This is definitely at the top of my must-see list for Nocturne.

BOOK

BOOK is a project between two guys in New York and two guys in Ireland. They sent a sketch book back and forth between each other for almost a year without any other communication, each creating a spread in response to the previous entry. The result is fun and inspiring, check it out here. {via antler magazine}

Pop-up art spaces

What to do about empty store fronts and the negative impact they have on downtowns everywhere? Use them as temporary exhibition spaces. They help to animate the street, provide artists with additional opportunities to display their work and reach a larger audience, as store fronts are often more approachable than traditional galleries. My first post...

{spotted on Christian Barnard landscape blog}

I've recently been enticed into the world of blogging 

by a friend  "You're the type of girl I'd expect to have

 a blog". So here it goes. 

I'll share my daily excitables, my experiences of 

being a young land architect in the real world, 

the challenges of decorating a small loft apartment 

and maybe the occasional juicy personal tid-bit.

I'll try to keep it short and sweet.
